As a barometer of the shipping market, the freight rate index is widely used in the modern shipping market. In order to meet the needs of the rapid development of China's container transportation market, the China Export Container Rate Index (CCFI) compiled and released by the Ministry of Communications and the Air Exchange was first released on April 13, 1998.
During this period, the function of China's export container freight index as a "barometer" reflecting market trends has been fully displayed, causing great repercussions in the shipping industry at home and abroad, and producing considerable economic and social benefits. With its scientific and authoritative, it has become the second largest freight index in the world after the Baltic Dry freight Index, and has been cited as authoritative data by the United Nations Trade and Development Maritime Annual Report.
China's export container freight index objectively reflects the situation of the container market, and has become an important indicator for the world to understand China's shipping market, providing a powerful basis for the daily operation decisions of major shipping and trade enterprises, attracting great attention from news units and relevant research and consulting institutions, and providing a decision-making basis for the government departments to macro-control China's container shipping market.
